For the first time this year, all Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) drivers will be racing on the same weekend. The Formula 2 and Formula 3 drivers are racing at Silverstone, while the Italian Formula 4 and Formula Regional series are in action at Spielberg for the fourth round of their season. The Austrian round follows on just a week after the Budapest races, in which the FDA alumni were front runners.
Gianluca. Gianluca Petecoff arrives in Spielberg as the leader of the Italian F4 championship, consolidating his lead with a win in the third race at the Hungaroring. The 16 year old Brazilian has a very strong first part of the season in terms of performance and consistency. Petecof is the only driver to have finished all eight races to date in the top five, with four wins, a second place, a third, a fourth and a fifth. He has a total of 155 points, 42 more than the second placed driver.
Enzo. While Petecof is looking to increase his lead, Enzo Fittipaldi is out to reduce the gap that separates him from the series leader. The Brazilian is second in the Formula Regional standings, 30 points behind Frederik Vesti. Fittipaldi has performed consistently, finishing all eight races on the podium. He has one win, six second places and a third. “Qualifying is the key to the results over the weekend,” reckoned Fittipaldi after Budapest. “And as from the coming weekend, I will concentrate a lot to optimise my performance over a flying lap.”
Family fight. After the first three rounds, the top three places in the classification are all occupied by Prema team drivers, so Fittipaldi will be looking to get the edge over his team-mates. It’s yet another interesting element in what looks like being an intense weekend. “I have fond memories of the Austrian track, because last year there in Formula 4, I took three pole positions and one win,” said Enzo. “So I can’t wait to be back behind the wheel on a circuit that’s been good to me.”
