24 hours after Robert Shwartzman clinched the FIA Formula 3 Championship, his fellow Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) student, Marcus Armstrong assured himself of the best finish available to him, by securing second place in the series.
Perfect weekend. The two FDA drivers started Race-2 from the fourth row of the grid and immediately began moving up the order. Having got as high as second, it was vital for Armstrong to set the race fastest lap and thus claim a further two points, to pass Daruvala in the final classification. With four laps remaining, Marcus did just that to take his total to 158 points, one more than Daruvala, and claim the runner up spot he had been chasing for so long.
Next stop Macau. After celebrating at his home track yesterday, the 2019 champion did not hold back in the last race. Schwartzman started from seventh and worked his way up to third at the end, so that he was able to celebrate a pretty much perfect season from the podium. With the FIA Formula 3 Championship now over, attention turns to the famous Macau street circuit, which hosts the prestigious but non-championship Macau Grand Prix on 17th November. The FDA drivers will be able to see how they measure up on one of the most demanding tracks in the world in a race that features the cream of drivers in the category and brings the curtain down on the 2019 season.
