This past weekend, the Paul Ricard circuit hosted the first round of this season’s Formula Regional, the brand new FIA series. Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) student, Enzo Fittipaldi proved to be one of the undoubted front-runners this weekend, bringing home a good points haul, thanks to victory in Race-2 and two runner-up spots in the first and third races.
Pole position. The weekend got off to the best possible start for Fittipaldi, who took pole in the wet first qualifying session, which determined the grid for Race-1. He was second and third on the grids for the next races.
The races. A good grid position proved to be the building block for a strong weekend and in Race-1, Fittipaldi had a close fight with his team-mate Olli Caldwell. Enzo lost ground, dropping to third but then fought back to finish second. In the second race, Fittipaldi again moved up from third to cross the line second. After the race, Caldwell’s car was found to have infringed a technical regulation, which handed the win to Fittipaldi. Another second place in the final race confirms that this was undoubtedly a successful weekend.
Thanks to the team. “Overall, it was a good weekend,” commented Enzo. “The pace was good all weekend and we were always in the fight for the wins. Some bits didn’t go as well as they could, like in Race-1 when I lost ground fighting my team-mate Caldwell. Then came a win in the second race and in general, finishing on the podium in all three races is definitely positive. I worked well with the Prema team and I thank them for giving me a really competitive car.”
Classification. After the Paul Ricard event, Enzo Fittipaldi lies second in the classification 61 points, seven behind the current leader Frederik Vesti.
