Maranello – The fourth round of the Formula Regional championship was a hectic affair last weekend at the Spielberg circuit. Enzo Fittipaldi was a front runner, coming away from the event with 40 points, thanks to a second, a fourth and a fifth place, which strengthens his hold on second place in the series.

Race-1. The Ferrari Driver Academy’s Brazilian student began the Austrian weekend by securing a second and two third places in qualifying, a strong showing which meant the podium definitely looked on the cards. At the start of the first race, Fittipaldi took the lead and seemed to be in control of the situation until the Safety Car came out, following an incident. At the restart, Enzo lost some places and had to settle for fourth at the flag.

Race-2. In Race 2, Fittipaldi was the innocent victim of a collision at the first corner, which meant he had to take to the escape road on the outside, which dropped him down to seventh. He fought back up to to fifth. The final race was very spectacular, with a race long battle between Fittipaldi, Vesti and Fraga. The fight went on until the very final few metres of the 20 lap race, with Enzo crossing the line second, ahead of Vesti.

Summary. “We struggled more than expected, and I faced a few difficulties, especially in qualifying,” commented Fittipaldi. The single quick lap is something I still need to work on and it’s a vital component of the race weekend, as demonstrated by my team-mate Vesti, who laid down the groundwork for a great weekend during the qualifying sessions. The car was fantastic all weekend. I was a bit unlucky in some situations, but I was still able to fight at the front in all the races. There are many positive aspects from the weekend, with some areas that still need working on, but overall it was a fun weekend. Now we have plenty of to analyse this weekend and prepare for the next round at Imola. It’s a track I adore and I’ve always gone very well there in the past. I can’t wait to aim for the top step of the podium again!”
