The Italian Formula 4 and European Formula Regional championships are drawing to a close, with just two rounds remaining: one this weekend at Mugello and the final one a fortnight later at Monza. The Italian series sees Ferrari Driver Academy student GIanluca Petecof, currently lying second on 202 points, courtesy of four wins and the same number of podium finishes.
In pursuit. The 16 year old Brazilian will be back in action at the track where he took his first win in this category last year, with an impressive showing that made him one of the outstanding rookies of that season. Twelve months on and Petecof is fighting for the title, aiming to bridge the 53 point gap to the leader, Dennis Hauger.
Fittipaldi’s Mugello memories. Enzo Fittipaldi also has good reason to look forward to this weekend, as it was at Mugello last year that the Brazilian clinched the Italian Formula 4 championship title, with two wins over the weekend. A year on and Fittipaldi is second in the European Formula Regional series.
Six to go. Enzo trails the leader by 73 points, but he still has six races in which to close the gap, without putting himself under pressure and when the races are done, then it will be time to count the points. With two wins and 12 podiums overall to his name, Fittipaldi is looking in good shape to aim for the highest step of the podium at Mugello, a track where he has always gone well. The action gets underway tomorrow, with the first of the three races.
