Giuliano Alesi took a great win this morning in Barcelona, showing great skill throughout the second GP3 race of the weekend. The 18 year old Frenchman started from the front row and soon took the lead on the damp track. Alesi, along with all those around him, started on rain tyres, managing the tricky early stages on the very slippery track.
The Ferrari Driver Academy student soon built up a bit of a cushion, but twice his advantage was wiped out by the appearance of the Safety Car. Alesi managed the restarts exceptionally well to be first past the chequered flag after the 16 laps of racing. Standing beneath the podium to join the celebrations for Giuliano’s first win of the season was Maurizio Arrivabene, along with other Ferrari team members.
Callum Ilott finished seventh. Having been a front runner in the early stages, the Englishman lost places in the closing stages mainly down to the busy action when the race restarted after the second Safety Car.
