This is going to be one of the busiest weekends for the Ferrari Driver Academy, with its drivers in the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships racing at Spa-Francorchamps and the Italian Formula 4 and Formula Regional series running at the historic Imola circuit.
Formula 4. Gianluca Petecof, who leads the Italian series, has kept himself busy during the long break, as the 16 year old Brazilian raced in the German ADAC Formula 4 championship. Ferrari Driver Academy student Petecof arrives in Imola for the seventh round of the season as the overall leader, a position he has held since the opening round. He is keen to put behind him the last round in Spielberg, which did not go as well as expected and he will once again be aiming for the top step of the podium. Petecof’s main challenge will be to keep ahead of Denis Hauger, who is just four points behind in the championship.
F.Regional. The busy Imola weekend also features the fifth of eight F.Regional rounds. Fittipaldi ended the first half of the season in second place, 55 points behind Frederik Vesti, a gap that can definitely be closed down given that every weekend, 75 points are up for grabs over the three races. The fight between Vesti and Fittipaldi should be one of the highlights of the Imola weekend, especially as the two men are team-mates with the Prema squad.
On the podium. The 18 year old Brazilian had his first taste of standing on the Imola podium last year in the Italian Formula 4 series in which he took the championship crown at the end of the season. It’s a good omen and a chance to maybe go for the win that has eluded him so far, even though he has finished on the podium nine times in eleven races. “I can’t wait to be back on track,” commented Enzo. “I love the Imola circuit and I’ve always gone very well here in the past. I want to get back to the top step of the podium and I hope I can do that very soon.”
